So who is Marie Martin? Last January, the group exhibition of the label poly offered a reflexion on the notions of identity, being and memory. When he started working on the subject, Matthias Pasquet, 27, simply went on Google. He then discovers that a woman named Marie, married to Pierre Martin, was the protagonist along with her husband of a gruesome story that happened at the beginning of the 19th century.
Both of them were innkeepers and held an establishment at Peyrebeille, Ardèche, France: L’Auberge rouge ( The Red Inn ). It was a theater of around fifty murders committed by the spouses — according to the legend — and is now a museum.
