Daniel Gebhart de Koekkoek Makes Cats Fly

When an online Austrian bookshop asked him to create a calendar for the year 2017, Daniel Gebhart de Koekkoek joked: “Sure, let’s do a cat calendar.” They liked the idea. Inspired by the series Jump by Dali and Philippe Halsman, he decided to reinterpret this project with felines.

On the twelve images, Ume, Elli, Flitzie, Nevio and Fiffy fly and jump in retro-style flats. We immediately wonder how the photographer managed to make these cats jump in such an interesting manner. “I spent several weeks, sometimes months, with each cat until I won their trust. They felt free and started to act natural, like nobody was watching them. They started to dance and jump all over the place, I just had to take the pictures.”

It is a bit too late to get the calendar, but you can still get the prints for 650 euros each.
